The Island People’s Project (aka IPP) was founded in 1967 as an educational day camp on Fishers Island with a mission to unite year-round residents with the summer community. Fishers Island is a seasonal destination off the coast of Connecticut and New York. It has a peak summer population of about 2,000 people and a year round population of approximately of 250 people. The original founders wanted a way for resident children and summer visitors to mingle and learn about each other and the community.
For the Good of the Community
As the seasonal community saw the value of the summer camp program, IPP was able to gather monetary donors and volunteers over time. This allowed them to expand their programs and build an even strong bond for the community. The all volunteer Board of Directors continues to run the IPP summer camp and now hosts a variety of family-friendly community events such as parades, an annual Arts and Crafts Fair, various Senior activities and more! Island People’s Project also owns and manages both the island’s baseball field and Dock Beach, the island’s smallest beach, by provides a lifeguard during the summer season.
Time to Get Rid of Nonprofit Inefficiencies
The Island People’s Project has played a vital role in island life and continues to grow, but issues began to arise over the need for online giving without fees and a way to produce and organize social media and marketing content. They also needed to figure out a way to run the volunteer committees more efficiently so that they could focus on programs that fulfill the community unity mission.
UncommonGood’s Customer Service Shined
“We chose UncommonGood because they listened to our needs, provided real-time customer service and had an offering that met IPP where our organization was, but could also address future needs we may have,” stated Jeanine Behr Getz, Treasurer of Island People’s Project.
Since starting with the UncommonGood nonprofit platform, Island People’s Project has seen a 25% increase in new donors by enabling them to make online donations using the donation widget. In addition, the volunteer board has been utilizing UncommonGood’s operational tools to free up their time and the design studio and media library to create and store all of their marketing materials.
